Olympics-The Selection Process

A rather cynical and ethnocentric male in my life, I'll call him "Dad", sent me a slideshow he found. It tells how the Chinese government selects children they observe as being strong and agile in preschool to be future Olympians. They are taken from their families and sent to special schools where the curriculum is athletics and not studies.

I asked my class if this is true (thinking it wasn't). It is, 100%. Much as we don't see anything wrong with our Olympic training process, neither do they.

The only sport that doesn't apply is ping pong, apparently there are a few that have become an Olympian solely by talent in that category.
